A BIG LOVE STORY

AN AWARD WINNING INDIE ROMANTIC COMEDY

In 2010 director Ryan Sage had one goal, make a feature film! Small problem, no script and not enough money to purchase one through an agent. His solution? The place where you find old baby furniture, jobs and massages that may or may not have happy endings... Craigslist!

Title:(writing gigs) LOOKING FOR A FINISHED COMEDY SCRIPT

I'm looking for a finished comedy script (preferably romantic comedy) to direct.  I would be personally funding this so needs to be a low-low budget, $500 upfront and then we can work out a deal for if it sells or gets distribution.

This would really be more about someone who wants their script to be made into a movie.  If you really care about money, this probably isn’t for you.  But if you are interested, please send a log line of your script and I’ll get back to you.

You can see some of my work here: www.ryansage.com

Thanks for your time,
Ryan

Ryan received about 50 responses, but only one caught his eye, here's Dale's first email...

Subject: Comedy Screenplays

Hi, my name is Dale Zawada.  I'm a stand-up comedian (Improv,Apollo, etc) and screenwriter and I have some comedy screenplays that might be up your alley.

THE ADOPTION (HORROR/COMEDY):  A celebrity couple adopts a Cambodian boy to regain their lost fame but it has deadly results as the little boy is an adorable stone cold killer.

THE WEIGHT WAR (COMEDY):  During a 10 day weight loss challenge among friends, Sam meets the girl of his dreams at the gym who says true love can be determined in three dates.

ANSWER MY QUESTIONING (COMEDY):  :  Ben falls in love with Jessie when Ben and his roommate break their ?no girls as roommates? rule.  The only problem is Jessie isn?t a girl.

RACE RELATIONS (COMEDY):  Two interracial couples try to win over their significant others parents.

I understand the low-budget thing and those are pretty low budget with minimal locations.  I have some more at http://www.dalezcomedy.com/screenplays/ if you want to take a look. I AM one of those people who just want to have a movie made so that 500 is more than fine.  I'm a comedy writer, Ryan.  That's what I do for a living.  I just want one of my screenplays to be made.  Hopefully one of these intrigues you.

Thanks for taking the time.

-Dale

"The Weight War" (eventually renamed "Worth the Weight" and then again "A Big Love story") interested Ryan enough to give it a read and the rest is history. Ryan bought the script and the two worked over email through the entire production, not meeting in person until the premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival.

Of course not all the responses to the Craigslist ad were positive...
